Kurzfassung: We are proud to present the proceedings of the joint symposium of the IWPMA, the International Workshop on Piezoelectric Materials and Applications, and the EHW, the annual Energy Harvesting Workshop 2013. This is the year of the 10th anniversary of the IWPMA. We are happy to host the conference in Hannover, Germany. The IWPMA was start back in 2004 as Korean German bilateral workshop and has grown up over the years to an international recognized annual meeting. It has been held all over the world: The EHW was initiated in 2006 and organized annually by Virginia Tech. We are happy to organize this workshop the first time outside the United States. This time it is the second time, after 2011, that both workshops have been organized as joint meeting. Due to the synergies between both fields this combinations give an excellent opportunity for intercommunication and exchange of experience. We are thankful to both honorary committees from EHW and IWPMA, giving us the chance to prepare this joint event. The symposium has been organized by the Institute of Dynamics and Vibration Research of the Leibniz Universität Hannover. During the time from July 14th to July 17th 2013 we have the conference in the Courtyard Mariott Hotel Maschsee in Hannover. More than 120 presentations are reporting the newest research from the field of piezoelectric materials and its application. Due to the joint meeting, the scope of the IWPMA is this year shifted little towards energy harvesting (52 contributions), but the strong mixture of application (54 contributions) and materials (19 contributions) is preserved. We are proud to present the 3rd CEHMS Inventor Award to Walter Herrmann, by winning this price he stands in one row together with Kenji Uchino (2011) and Dan Inman (2012), all three known for their contributions to the field of smart structures and materials. A special thank yields our plenary speakers, four recognized personages of their fields: Nava Setter, Vladimir I. Babitsky, Karsten Beck, and James Friend. We like to thank all participants and authors to make this conference possible. We acknowledge the promotion and sponsorship of all our supporter, especially the Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.
